What are Transwestern's core states of business? Transwestern only does business in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

Does Transwestern require me to sign a contract? Yes, all agents must sign an agency agreement contract once they are approved to write with Transwestern.

What type of license do I need to do business with Transwestern? You will need an appropriate property casualty agent/producer or broker license to become a TGA agent;  from your state of domicile as well as non-resident licenses for any other state in which you plan to write business.

May I write non-resident business in another state?  If you are properly licensed in the state you plan to write in and Transwestern has a copy of that license, you may.  You will be limited to the states that Transwestern is licensed in for non-resident business.

If I write non-admitted business through Transwestern, do I have to file the surplus lines taxes? As this varies for each state, company and license, please contact us for more information.  Please note that you will need to be licensed as a Surplus Lines Broker to write non-admitted business.

What companies does Transwestern represent? Over 30 companies including AIG, American Modern, Burlington, Canal, First Financial, Markel, Maxum, National Indemnity, Nautilus/Great Divide, Northland, Wellington and many others.

What commission does Transwestern pay? This varies by company and the line of business you write, please contact us for more information.

Will I have binding authority? No.

Will Transwestern provide me with insurance company's applications? Yes, we have the majority of our applications in PDF format available to download online, via password.  You must be an active licensed agent with Transwestern to receive a password.

What type of applications do you require? There are companies who will accept Acord applications, and some that require the use of their own forms.  There are also companies that will accept or require both.

How do I write a policy with Transwestern? As a properly licensed agent, he or she will gather and complete the application, have the insured sign it, and then send in the application for approval and a quote.

Who do I report claims to? Directly to the insurance company of which the policy is written.

If my insured needs a certificate of insurance, can I issue it from my office? No, the certificate must be issued by Transwestern.

Does Transwestern have direct bill system? Yes, but for our personal lines only.  There is no direct billing system for commercial accounts.

Does Transwestern offer an account current billing arrangement for brokers? Yes, please contact us for more information.

Does my insured have to pay in full, or do you offer financing? We have relationships in place to obtain premium financing for insureds.

Will Transwestern accept an insured’s check, or do I have to pay with my agency check? We will accept an insured’s check, but the agent will be responsible until the check clears.

If my state requires a diligent search, declination affidavit or similar form, will Transwestern file the form on my behalf? Requirements vary by state, however, if the form is filled out completely and accurately then it can be filed by us.
